John Decatur Barry was Colonel of the 18th North Carolina Infantry Regiment in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. The men he was leading at Chancellorsville mistakenly fired on General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. Barry was appointed Brigadier General (temporary) in 1864 while James Lane recovered from wounds. After the war, he returned home in poor health and edited a newspaper in Wilmington, North Carolina.[1]
Son of John A Barry and Mary Owen. Husband of Fannie Jones.[2] John Decatur Barry passed away in 1867. Final resting place in Oakdale Cemetery, Wilmington, New Hanover County, North Carolina.[3]
