John Emerson Barrows was born at Hartford, Maine, on 16 Aug 1839, the son of Tilson Barrows and Elizabeth Dunham (Allen) Barrows.[1] He was born at Hartford, Maine, where his parents were living in 1840,[2] and his birth was recorded at Livermore, Maine, after his parents moved there in the late 1840s.[3]
John E. Barrows enlisted as a private in Company A of the 4th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia Regiment on 22 May 1861 and served until 22 Jul 1861, when the regiment was mustered out. He enlisted as a private in Company K of the 33rd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment on 8 Aug 1862, was promoted to corporal, and served until the end of the war, being discharged when his regiment was mustered out on 11 Jun 1865.[5]
Death
John E. Barrows, veteran of the 33rd Massachusetts Infantry Regment, died on 22 Oct 1925.[6]
