Maurice William Barltrop was born on 5th July 1922 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. He was the son of Arthur Barltrop and Margaret Sepich.
On 12th January 1942, one month after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Maurice enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial Force for military service overseas during the Second World War. [1] He was allocated to the 2/14th Australian Infantry Battalion, a unit of the 21st Brigade, 7th Division, joining the battalion upon its return from Northern Africa, greece and Crete, and the Middle East. Maurice saw bitter action at Kokoda and other places in Papua and New Guinea, as well as at Balikpapan. [2] He was demobilies on 12th June 1946. He was awarded the campaign and service medals, 1939-1945 Star, Pacific Star], War Medal 1939-1945 and Australia Service Medal 1939-1945.
