Biography

Private Henry Barlow served in the United States Civil War.

Henry was born in 1840 in Wilkes, North Carolina. He was the son of Braxton Barlow and Charlotte Carlton. On 25 Oct 1861 he married Amanda Ferguson and they had one child, a son.

On 21 Sep 1862 Henry enlisted with the Confederate Army along with two of his brothers. He enlisted in Co. C of the 26th Infantry Regiment of North Carolina. It is unclear if he was wounded in battle, caught an infection or something else, but he returned to Wilkes, NC and passed away on 10 Jul 1864 at the young age of 24. He is buried at the Braxton Barlow Family Cemetery.

Per a newspaper article found dated 14 Sep 1903 (see image) he was in many of the major battles of the war and was wounded at Gettysburg and later mortally wounded at Cold Harbor, VA.
