Barden-1291 and Barden-610 appear to represent the same person because: Same name and father with similar birth information. Earlier birth date is from history of the town of Attleboro. If town history and date of marriage to Olive are correct, Olive may not be his mother.

The reason “same name and father with similar birth information” seems to be weak justification to merge these profiles. Is there evidence to suggest Thomas, the elder, had two wives?

It seems unlikely two sons would have been given the same name. What is the source of the date of marriage to Olive?

There are a number of Thomas Barden’s …

Thomas, b. 1793, married Mary Coe; son of Thomas Barden and Olive Benton

Thomas, b. 1788, married Rachel Smith, was probably the son of another Thomas Barden, and Lydia (or Nancy?) Alexander

See the following for other information: "Massachusetts, Town Clerk, Vital and Town Records, 1626-2001," database with images, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FHWM-8JK : 20 May 2022), Thomas Barden in entry for Thomas Barden, 13 Oct 1845; citing Death, Massachusetts, United States, Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth, Boston; FHL microfilm 007009599.

From: A sketch of the history of Attleborough : from its settlement to the division chapter XVI, page 509:

"BARDEN" "The first of this name in town was one Thomas Barden, who in 1757 was living on the place now occupied by Charles E. Carpenter. His second son, named Thomas, was born in town February 24, 1765. He had a son, also named Thomas, who was born May 3, 1788. This Thomas settled in Wrentham. He married Rachel Smith and had seven children, three of whom are still living...."

Do you think this history is in error, or do I understand correctly one or more of the alternative Thomas Bardens you mention was born in the same month and was the son of a different Thomas?

Alternatively, perhaps the Thomas Barden who married Olive Benton wasn't the Thomas Barden born February 1765 in Attleboro.

Sources added to Thomas, b. 1793. The Census records show him living after the death of Thomas, b. 1788.

The death record from the Massachusetts vital records cited above has the death of Thomas, b. Abt 1788, in 1845, and names different parents.

I concur that these two profiles represent different men. Find-a-Grave indicates the 1793 birth was in New York, conforming to the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census for Barden-610 living in Seneca, New York. It would appear the Attleborough history has confused Barden-608 who moved to New York by 1793 with the husband of Lydia Alexander who presumably stayed in Attleboro -- possibly the Thomas Barden recorded in the 1790 census of Attleborough as head of a family of two men over the age of 16, one under the age of 16 (Barden-1291?), and six women.

Thomas was a common name among the Bardens, with these contemporaneous Bardens mistaking one for another is certainly possible. I would not be surprised if all the Massachusetts Thomases are related.

Thanks for canceling the merge.

Barden-1291 and Barden-610 do not represent the same person because: Rachel Smith's husband Barden-1291 = Thomas Barden (1788-1845) was born in Cumberland, Rhode Island to Thomas Barden and Lydia (Alexander) Barden according to Wrentham Deaths p.408 while Mary Coe's husband Barden-610 = Thomas Barden (1793-1877) was born in New York as reported in his 1850, 1860, and 1870 census reports from Seneca, New York.
