Biography

Frank Joseph Barberi was born on Sunday, January 14, 1917, in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida. His parents were Giacomo Francisco Barberi (1869 - Wednesday, May 22, 1918) and Rosa Maria Camariti Barberi (Sunday, August 30, 1885 - Saturday, February 15, 1969). Both his parents were born in Sinipoli, Reggio Calibria, Italy. Both his parents died in Pensacola, Escambia County, Pensacola. Frank was the youngest of five children (one sister and three brothers).

On Wednesday, March 13, 1940, Frank married Josephine Inez Hogan (Wednesday, February 26, 1919 - Sunday, February 4, 1996) at Santa Rosa Beach, Walton County, Florida. They had two daughters: Sheila Dale Barberi Crenshaw (Monday, August 21, 1944) and Sandra Gail Barberi Johnson (Friday, November 1, 1940). Sandra's husband, William A. Johnson, was born in Selma, Dallas County, Alabama on Sunday, February 23, 1941,

The 1940 U. S. Census identifies his occupation as battery work in a department store in Pensacola. In 1942 Frank's draft registration stated that he worked in Civil Service for the U.S. Navy. In 1955 the Pensacola City Directory lists him as an electrician.

Frank Barberi of Warrington was installed as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Pensacola Council 778 in ceremonies at the lodge home on Monday, July 19, 1965. The Pensacola News Journal reported in its Monday, November 15, 1965, edition that Grand Knight Frank Barberi of Pensacola Council 778 would allow Knights of Columbus memorial services for deceased members may now be attended by relatives and friends of the deceased, as well as members. In 1973 Frank was state warden of the Knights of Columbus and was given a testimonial dinner y . the local chapter when he paid his official visit. Frank served as the Pensacola Council 778 chairman of the Knights of Columbus 75th anniversary weekend celebration in May 1978. In 1982 at a Knights of Columbus carnival, Frank Barberi, a member for 46 years, wore the king's crown and robe.

Frank passed away on Monday, December 21, 1992, and is buried with his wife at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida.
