Clara Barbee was born on 24 Oct 1846 in Clark County, Kentucky, United States, daughter of George L. Barbee and Eleanor Frances (Poindexter) Barbee.^[1][2]

In the 1860 census Clara (age 12) was the inferred daughter in the household of Geo L. and E. Francis Barbee in District 1, Scott County, Kentucky.^[3]

Clara married Benjamin F. Pettit on 26 May 1868 in Scott County.^[4]

In the 1870 census Clara (age 23) was the inferred wife in the household of Benj. F. Pettit in Fayette County, Kentucky, with one inferred daughter, Kate (1).^[5]
