Paul Takeo Bannai was an American politician who was the first Japanese American to serve in the California State Legislature.

Paul Bannai was born in 1920. Paul was "Nisei," or second-generation Japanese-American, born to Japanese immigrant parents.[1]

He was held at Manzanar during World War II with his family due to Executive Order 9066.[1] Later, he enlisted in the United States Army and served with the 442nd Infantry Regiment and the Army Intelligence Service.
