Bruce Joseph Banham was born on 29th June 1918 in Wellington, New South Wales, Australia. He was the only son of Ike Banham and Iris Quick. [1] The family later settled in the Dulwich Hill-Marrickville area of Sydney.
On 5th August 1940 in Marrickville, Bruce enlisted in the Citizens Military Force (Militia) and was posted to the 55th/53rd Infantry Battalion (later the 55th Battalion and in late 1942 once more merged as the 55th/53rd Battalion). [2] Following war's end he was demobilised on 8th October 1945. [2]
