Biography

Caroline Wilhelmina Charlotte Sophie was born on 22 Aug 1843 and baptized on 3 Sep 1843 in Estorf, Amt Stolzeneu, Hannover, the daughter of Ludwig Banger and Wilhelmia Meyer. She had a twin sister Dorothee Sophie Wilhelmine Louise, and at least three older siblings.

She came to the United States in the Spring of 1849 on the ship "Adler" (Little Eagle). Her brother had gone to Schenectady, New York in 1847 and was working for the railroad there. Her father planned to settle there permanently and bought a sawmill. He contracted cholera and died within 6 hours. Her mother decided to move the family to the Chicago area, as she had friends, the Fischers, in Elmhurst.
