Francis (Balfour) Balfour of Fernie MD is Notable.
Francis Balfour was a Scottish medical officer and medical author who lived and worked primarily in British India.

Francis Balfour was the third son of Arthur Balfour of Fernie[1]

He studied at Edinburgh University, gaining his medical degree in 1767. He then joined the Indian Medical Service with which he served until 1807.[2]

Francis married Emilia Balfour in Madras, India on 6 August 1777.[3]

Francis and Emilia had at least two children:

  1. Amilia Balfour (1790-) baptised Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland 3 January 1790[4]
  2. Francis Balfour baptised Calcutta, India 9 February 1799.[5]

Francis Balfour died at Fernie, in the parish of Monimail, Fife on 7 May 1818.[6]
