Biography

Private Wallace Baldwin served in the United States Civil War.

Wallace was born in 1845 to Lester Phelps Baldwin and Sophronia Bayley. Wallace enlisted in Company D of the 103rd OVI on 6 Aug 1862 as a Private. He was discharged on 8 Jan 1863 on a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability. After he regained his health he enlisted in Company H of the 150th Ohio Infantry (National Guard) on 02 May 1864 and mustered out on 23 Aug 1864. After the war, Wallace moved to Oregon where he married Adalaide "Addie" Brownson on 16 Apr 1868 in Benton, Oregon. Wallace was appointed as the U.S. Postmaster for Corvallis, Benton, Oregon on 6 Jul 1868 and served until 1871. Wallace worked as a Merchant and a Hardware Dealer in Oregon. For a short period of time he was a Steamboat Agent in California in the early 1900s before returning to Oregon. He passed away in 1928.
