Janet Carmichael (Bald) McGilp was born on 25 June 1842 and was baptised on 13 October 1842 in St Andrews and St Leonards, Fife, Scotland, United Kingdom, daughter of Joseph Bauld (1808 - ) and Margaret Muir (~1812 - 1870)^[1].

Janet emigrated from Scotland, departing from Glasgow, to Tasmania with her family arriving at Launceston on 21 May 1857 aboard the Forest Monarch.^[3][4]

Janet married Dugald McGilp (1833 - 1907) on 8 December 1865 in Dorset, Tasmania, Australia^[5].
