Biography

John Albert Bakke was born on Jun. 1, 1931 to Roy Oscar Bakke and Mabel Eugenia Johnson. ^[1]

John servied in the US Navy from 1952-1955 aboard the CV-40, USS Tarawa as an aircraft mechanic. He was awarded the National Defense Medal and the Navy Occupational Medal while in active service.^[2]

He married Marilyn Joan Opsahl, daughter of Ole Opsahl and Grace Irene Johnson, on May 5, 1956 at First Lutheran Church in Red Wing, Minnesota.^[3] They became the parents of two children; Susan Marie and Thomas John.

John was a firefighter with the Red Wing Fire Department from 1959 until 1986.^[4]

He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and Wildlife League.

John died at the age of 79 years on Sep. 25, 2010 at St. Mary's' Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.^[5] He is buried at the Oakwood Cemetery in Red Wing, Minnesota.^[6]
