Leonard was born in 1911[1]. He was the son of George Baker and Jennie Monkhouse.
In 1936, Leonard married Alice Rose, daughter of Alfred George and Jane Morley[2].
Leonard served with the 2/15th Field Regiment during the Second World War. He was taken prisoner in Burma and died of illness in the prison camp[3]. He was buried at Thanbyuzayat War Cemetery, Thanbyuzayat, Mon State, Myanmar[4][5].
