Birth

Elizabeth "Betsy Baker" was born in Tipperary Ireland, the daughter of George Baker 1811- and Mary Maloney 1809- (from the Marriage Certificate).

Immigration

21 November 1854 - New South Wales. Elizabeth arrived in Australia aged 15 in 1854 on the Vessel "Kate" from Middlesex, England. She travelled with her father George, aged 43, mother, Mary aged 45, sister Amelia aged 13 and sister Susan aged 11. ^[1]

Marriage

Eliza married John Frederick Smith in Victoria in 1859. She was 19 and signed with her mark (a domestic servant) and he was aged 28 and a carpenter. neither have been married before and have no children, and the marriage was in the Roman Catholic Church. Place of birth given by both parties, and parents names.^[2] Children: John Philip Smith (1860-1897) William Smith 1863- George Smith 1865 - Frederick Smith 1868-

Death

Elizabeth died in 1870 aged 29. Parents named on the death index as George Baker and Mary Unknown. Birth place listed as Tipperary, and spouse named as John Smith John Smith the informant on the death certificate and states they were married at Kyneton, when she was 18 years of age, names four of the children from the marriage, and that the cause of death was 'haemorrhage after four hour confinement'. .^[3]
