On June 1, 1904, Samuel married Nellie Tuckley in Cole County, Missouri.^[3]

According to the 1920 census, Sam lived with Nellie and their daughter Mary in Jefferson City, Missouri.^[4]

Sam served as the Governor of Missouri from 1925 to 1929.^[5]

Sam died on September 16, 1933 in Jefferson City, Missouri.^[6]^[1]

He is buried in the Riverview Cemetery in Jefferson City, Missouri.^[7]
