Biography

Birth

Nothing is known of the ancestry of Rebecca Bailey, Based on her age from her gravestone, she was born about 1780.^[1]

Marriage

On 7 Feb 1807, Rebecca Bailey of Greene, Maine, and and (both then in Massachusetts) published at Leeds their intention to marry, and their marriage was certified there on 22 Feb 1807.^[2] There are no known children from this marriage; in the 1810 census, the household of Henry Morse at Leeds has no children,^[3] and in the 1820 census, the only child living in the household of Henry Morse was a female under 10, ^[4] who would have been Evalina Frances Morse, the daughter born to Henry and his second wife in October 1819.^[5] No record of any children has been found at Leeds. The vital records of Livermore have many omissions in the birth records between about 1812 and 1820, so it is possible there were children born then who did not survive.

Death

A gravestone at the Lakeside Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, says that Rebecca Morse died on 17 Apr 1818 at the age of 38.^[1] The stone is in the same style as the stone of her husband, Henry Morse, who died in 1860, so it was placed more than 40 years after her death, and thus it may or may not mark her burial place. Henry was called of Livermore when he published the intention of his second marriage nine months after Rebecca's death,^[6] so Henry and Rebecca may have been living at Livermore when Rebecca died.
