John N Bahcall was an astrophysicist known for his work on the solar neutrino problem and for his role in ensuring the construction and survival of the Hubble Space Telescope.
He was born in Shreveport, La., on Dec. 30, 1934 and died in 2005.
He married Neta Assaf in 1966, they had three children:
