Biography
John Fleming Bagby was born about 1829 in Virginia.[1] He was the son of Jesse Bagby.
In the 1860 U.S. Census, John F. Bagby was recorded as 30-years old living in Fluvanna County, Virginia. He was employed as an overseer.[1]
John enlisted in Company C, Virginia 44th Infantry Regiment on 6 June 1861 in New Canton, Virginia. He died on 27 June 1862 at Gaines' Mill, Hanover, Virginia.[2][3]
His father Jesse made an oath in Buckingham County, Virginia on 28 November 1862 in Court indicating that he was the father of Sgt John F Bagby, who died 27 June 1862. Since, John didn't have a wife or children, his father made a claim for the pay due for John's service during the Civil War. [4]
