Based on the 1850 US Census at Kane County Illinois, 16 year old Andrew J.. Babcock was born about 1834. He is in the household of his step-father, Abirum Spaulding, along with his mother Euphrasia Douglass Babcock Spaulding, his siblings Douglas and Mary, and step-siblings. Later his brother Douglas's death record will list his father as Linus Babcock, so presumably this was Andrew's father as well. One of Andrew's brothers named Orin Linus Babcock. Orin was born at Onondaga New York two years after Andrew. ^{[1] [2]} Linus had died in 1844 at Aurora, Illinois. ^[3] Ruphrasia and Linus Babcock sold land to C HAll in Onondaga in 1840 ^[4] It is most likely that Andrew was born in Onondaga County as his brother was.

Andrew was killed in action in 1862.
