William was born in 1841. William enlisted in Company F of the 103rd OVI on 30 Jul 1862 as a Sergeant. He was wounded at the Battle of Resaca on 14 May 1864.
He transferred to the 4th Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps on 27 Mar 1865. He mustered out on 14 Jul 1865 at Rock Island, Illinois by order of the War Department. William married Clara A. Wilkins on 7 Aug 1865 in Geauga County, Ohio. They had a son, Webster in 1867 in Chardon, Geauga County, Ohio. By 1870, they had moved to Iowa and William worked as a clerk in a grocery store. The 1880 U.S. census shows William working as a Farmer in Oneida, Delaware, Iowa. He passed away in 1932.
