Although we have now determined that Ayling and Aylwin have different surname and genetic origins, the two names are often used interchangeably in families in Hampshire, West Sussex and West Surrey up until the mid 1700s. Many genetic AYLWINs adopted the Ayling surname prior to this period.
I am not certain of the ancestral line of the eastern Canadian branch. We'd love to have an AYLWIN male descendant of the Quebec branch join our YDNA Project so sort out where they fit in terms of an ancestor-in-common with our other Alwin testers, ancestry running back to Treyford in West Sussex.
