6th Baronet Aylmer, of Doneda, County Kildare.

Background

FitzGerald Aylmer was born in 1736, the son of Gerald and Lucy (Norris) Aylmer.^[1]

Marriage and family

FitzGerald married Elizabeth Cole, daughter of Fenton Cole of Silverhill, co Fermanagh.

Children:

1. Fenton, a twin, married Jane Grace Freke, dau of Sir John Evans Freke, Bart
2. John, a twin, married Grace Jane Evans, dau of William Evans, a brother of Sir John Evans Freke.
3. Arthur marr in 1807 to Anne Harrison, dau of John Harrison of Walworth Castle.
4. Margaret marr Sir John Hort, Bart.

"Sir Fitzgerald Aylmer who remodelled Donadea Castle in the years before 1772 as a modern mansion and created most of the house the ruins of which remain today. As a Protestant, he was able to play a full part in public life, and he sat in the Irish House of Commons for more than thirty years as an MP for various constituencies." ^[2]
