Osborn was born about 1836 in Granville Co, NC. He married Adaline Taylor in Sandusky County, OH. Their daughter Mary was born on 4 October 1861.
On 24 Sep 1863, in Delaware County, OH, he enlisted in Company I, 5th Regiment U.S. Colored Infantry. He declared his occupation as laborer. He stood 5'8" tall. Osborn was mustered into service as a private on 17 Oct 1863.
Fighting at the Petersburg, VA front, Osborn was wounded on 6 August 1864 and taken to a field hospital where two days later he passed away on 8 August 1864.
His widow sought pension benefits for herself and their daughter Mary.
