With reference to Honours & Knights' Fees Volume I by William Farrer –
William Avenel married as her second husband Helewise eldest daughter and coheir of Wakelin Wadard who was the mother of Wakelin Hareng by her first unnnamed husband. By William Avenel she had two daughters who married respectively Richard de Vernon and Simon Basset. In 1194 Simon Basset accounted in the counties of Buckingham and Bedford for 100 marks for having the land of Richard de Vernon which he took with his wife, In 1201 Simon Basset held 1½ knights' fees of the honour of Peverell of Nottingham. At the time he was holding in addition, of the honour of Peverel 10 pounds yearly value of land in Baslow. He and Richard Vernon paid 23s 8d of scutage that year in the counties of Buckingham and Bedford. In 1205 he gave 20 marks for confirmation of land which William de Hommet [Humez] constable of Normandy gave him in Essex. He died that year when Elizabeth his widow gave 80 marks and a palfrey to have her inheritance and not be forced to marry. She held 1 ½ fees in Haddon and Baslow in 1212 and died 1226. Her son William Basset had livery of the land of the honour of Peverel in Buckinghamshire which the said Elizabeth Avenel had demised during her lifetime to her said son.
