Jean Auzou or Ozou, variations: Auzon, Housseau, Ausau, Osou
His date and place of birth are unknown, 1681 census gives him 40 years of age. René Jetté tells us he probably came from Normandie, where the name Auzou/Ozou can be found.[2]
He married Élisabeth (aka Isabelle) Martin around 1667 in France.[2]
9 known children to the couple (listed above), 4 of the girls known to marry. It is uncertain when or where his firstborn son was born, he is listed as 13 in 1681 census, and is known to have received the sacrament of confirmation in Lachine in 1681.[2]

Death
Jean Ozou was buried on 6 March 1707 in Montréal (ND), the record giving him around 60 years of age, he died in Hôtel-Dieu hospital of the city.[5]
He had previously been attached as son of Louis Ozanne and Marie Denot, which was an impossibility, they married in the colony in 1655, Marie Denot previously being married with Étienne Vien.
One problem with identifying which records in notarial acts actually pertain to him is that the majority of such acts were done before notary Antoine Adhémar and, having tried reading some of this man's records, are extremely difficult to read. The notarial acts inventory from which the below act summaries are drawn sometimes standardized names. It is presumed that the man named Pierre Auzon was either him or his son Pierre. One record in October 1689 has the name Ozannes inserted, but there was no adult Pierre Ozannes at the time in the colony. Some of the 1693 acts tend to indicate that this Pierre Auzon was engaged in the fur trade. Possibly so was Jean. This would be supported by the fact that 1681 census shows no land under cultivation for the family, although such is listed for most others on the census. No record found ever lists a profession for him. Liard-1
