Biography

Hezekiah Austin was born on 27 December 1777, the son of Peter Austin and Deborah (Gage) Austin. His birth is recorded in Fryeburg's town records along with several siblings who later ended up in the town of Jay along with their parents.^[1]

On 2 Jun 1804, Hezekiah Austin of Jay, Maine, and Rachel Reding of Livermore, Maine, (both then in Massachusetts) published at Livermore their intention to marry,^[2] They were married in Jay by John Tompson, Justice of the Peace, on 20 November 1804.^[3] They had three children: Otis, Polly, and Joanna.

On 3 August 1809, Hezekiah died, probably at Jay, where his death was recorded.^[4]

Research Notes

A search of the Cumberland and Oxford County registries of deeds has found no results for land transactions involving Hezekiah, so it is unknown where he lived in Jay. As he died there before the town of Canton was carved out of Jay in 1821, it is possible he lived in that part of town, where his father had lived.
