He and his family came to the U.S. in March 1843,[6] after having their departure announced in the local newspaper in order to potential creditors to be able to collect their money before the departure.[7]
Johannes died in 1860 aged ~66, and was buried in Green Mound Cemetery, Fort Recovery, Mercer County, Ohio.[8]
John's German Army Discharge papers give the birth year of 1800, and describe him as 65" tall, with a "slender body, red face, gray eyes, brown hair, and a pointy nose". [citation needed]
