Biography

Birth

Joanna More Atwood was born at Dummerston, Vermont, on 23 May 1789, the daughter of Haynes Learned and Mary (Davis) Learned. Her birth was recorded (as "Jonah More Atwood") at Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts),^[1] but her parents did not move there until about 1795,^[2] the 1850 census shows her birthplace as Vermont,^[3] and her parents were both described as of Dummerstion when they married there in 1788.^[4]

Out-of-Wedlock Child

Joanna Atwood gave birth to a child, Isaac Atwood, at Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), on 14 May 1810.^[1] The name of the father is not recorded.

Marriage

Joanna Atwood married Thomas Rich.^[5] On 11 Dec 1813, Thomas Rich and Joanna Atwood, both of Livermore, Maine, published at Livermore their intention to marry.^[6] They married at Livermore on 23 Jan 1814.^[7]

Death

Joanna (Atwood) Rich died on 20 Aug 1868 and is buried at the Gibbs Mill Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, with her age at her death given on her gravestone as 79 years, 3 months.^[8]
