First black editor of the Yale Law Journal. As he graduated Yale Law School cum laude with his LL.B. in June 1922, Atkins was elected to the Order of the Coif honor society, the first black to ever earn such a distinction
Jasper Alston Atkins was born on August 8, 1898 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth, North Carolina, United States, son of Simon Green Atkins (1863–1934) and Oleina Pegream (1867–1936).[1]
