REBECCA ATKINS JOHNSTON

REBECCA ATKINS was born about 1805, at Adare, County Limerick, Ireland. She was the daughter of CATHARINE LONG (1770-1849) and JAMES ATKINS (1765-1820)

Presumably n Ireland, she married JAMES JOHNSTONE born 1795 at Belfast, County Antrim, Ireland

They were the parents of

2. JOSEPH JOHNSTON (1838–1897)
3. SARAH JANE ANN JOHNSTON SMITH BUMSTEAD (1839–1919)
4. MARGARET H JOHNSTON BULL (1841–1926)

7. ELLEN JOHNSTON HATCH (1846–1919)

While all of the Johnston children are noted on the 1851 Canada Census as being born in Ireland, realistically, at least four of them would have been born in Ontario. The eldest three (could) have been born in Ireland, but there’s no substantiating documentation to provide certainty of the proposition. In all likelihood, all seven were born in Canada.

REBECCA JOHNSTON died on February 12, 1859, in Grey County, Ontario (Probably near St. Vincent) and is buried in Duxbury Cemetery; Lot 25, Concession 7, St. Vincent Township, Grey County, Ontario, Row 6^[1]
