Biography

Birth

Eugene George Atkins, was born 26 Jun 1922, in Los Angeles, California to Dorothy Hall and Asa Allen Atkins.^{[1] [2]} It is unclear whether his parents were officially married although it appears they at least held themselves out as married prior to his birth. Childhood

During his childhood, Eugene lived with his mother, Dorothy Hall Crawford, and his stepfather, James Madison Crawford.^[3]

Physical Description in 1942

When Eugene registered for the draft in 1942, he listed his name as Eugene George Crawford Atkins ^[4] He was described as an unemployed white male, age 20, weighing 342 pounds, height 5 foot 11 inches, with brown hair, brown eyes and a ruddy complextion. ^[4] He was residing in Pittsburg, Contra Costa, California, and listed his mother, Dorothy Crawford, as his next of kin.^[4]

Travels

Around 1946, Eugene traveled to Puerto Rico for unknown reasons.^[5]

In 1949, Eugene traveled from California to Hawaii to work with the staff of a carnival show.^[6]

Marriages

On 20 Mar 1952, Eugene married Eleanore Kuhlmann in Alameda County, California.^[7] Eleanor was a year younger than Eugene.^[7] This was likely Eleanore's second marriage as one marriage record lists her name as Eleanore Kuhlmann, while the other lists her name as Eleanor K Smith.^[8] Eleanore either died, or Eugene divorced her, prior to Feb of 1954 when Eugene remarried.

On the 17 Feb 1954, Eugene married Joan Athenian, age 28, in Los Angeles, California. She was the daughter of Mae Perrou of Turkey and John Peter Athenian of Greece.^[9]

Death

Eugene died on 06 Jan 1956 in Los Angeles, California.^[2]
