Biography
David Atchison is Notable.
- Lawyer, admitted to Kentucky Bar, 1829. Moved to Missouri the next year. His best-known Missouri client was LDS founder, Joseph Smith.
- Plantation owner with many slaves. Strong advocate for slavery, leader in Kansas disputes and skirmishes leading up to the Civil War.
- He led "Border Ruffians" who seized control of polling places in the 1855 election, stuffed the ballot boxes, resulting in a pro-slavery legislature.

- Atchison County, Kansas and Atchison County, Missouri are named in Sen. Atchison's honor.
