I am a retired counselling psychologist who worked in post-secondary education in the Canadian province of Alberta and in the United Arab Emirates. My retirement home is in Alberta. Genealogy and travel are my main retirement interests.
To prepare for my pursuit of genealogy I completed a Professional Learning Certificate in Genealogical Studies from the Canadian-based National Institute for Genealogical Studies now known as the International Institute for Genealogical Studies. For more than 15 years I have published newsletters for my extended family.
My ancestors lived in Canada, Colonial America, England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, France and Norway and include three known groups of refugees: Huguenots, Acadians and United Empire Loyalists. I have been fortunate to visit many ancestral places.
I am currently a member of the Alberta Genealogical Society, the New Brunswick Genealogical Society, and the Guild of One-Name Studies. My one-name study is for the surname Brinston, which started with a family from Newfoundland, and I participate in several other one-name studies and surname societies. I am a modest contributor to Find a Grave and enjoy connecting families there – apparently good training for WikiTree.
The brick wall I would most like to break through is John Galbraith who married in 1810 in Ayrshire, Scotland. To this end I am researching his descendants in search of a living male Galbraith who might do a YDNA test. My autosomal DNA results have been uploaded wherever possible.

Thanks for your note on the profile of Mary Ellen Dinn. The profile does not have a manager at this time, so no one will be notified about your message. I happened to see it as a result of Greeter duties.
You are welcome to use our database and G2G Forum for research. If you are interested in adopting the profile and collaborating on the Dinn and related families, please visit your Tags and Comments page to add some information.
After you have made your changes, scroll down and click the "Save Tag(s) and Volunteer" link in the dark green box. The Greeters will be alerted and can get you confirmed. Don't worry, you would only be volunteering to abide by our community guidelines and collaborate on profiles.
