Bernhard was a younger son of Erich IV, Herzog von Sachsen-Lauenburg (Duke of Saxe-Lauenburg) in Lauenburg, Ratzeburg and Bergedorf, and his wife, Sophie von Braunschweig und Luneburg,
He succeeded his elder brother Erich V in 1435 as Bernhard II, Herzog von Sachsen-Lauenburg in Lauenburg and Ratzeburg.
Bernard II died 16 July 1463, and was buried at Ratzeburg Cathedral.[1]
