Biography

Jane Arnold, also known as Jane Arnell was the daughter of William Arnold and Hannah Morgan Banks - she was baptised at Alveston, GLS on 25 March 1799.

She married William Power on 23 Feb 1819 in St Mary's Church/Chapel at Henbury, GLS by BANNS. She gave her name on that marriage registration as Jane Arnold, a spinster residing in Henbury, GLS and made her mark with an 'X'.

William Power stated he was a labourer also of Henbury, GLS and similarly made his mark with an 'X'. They were married in the presence of John Lane and Martha Withers as witnesses.

Together, William and Jane had 12 children from 1819 to 1841 - all being born in Aust, GLS with 5 dying in infancy in Aust, GLS, The remainder either migrated to Australia with William and Jane on the Epimonindas arriving Port Philip June 1855, or separately with their own families. They were:

Upon arrival in Australia, William and his sons went to the gold fields after which they moved their families and settled in the Elmhurst area to take up farming and remain at Pleasant Creek Laen near Donald, Victoria

Jane died in 1880 in Victoria.[1]

According to The Argus, Shipping Intelligence, the Epaminondas arrived at Port Phillip Heads on 22 May 1855 [2] and the passenger list says it arrived at Geelong on 1 Jun 1855 [3] either way, Jane and William arrived on this ship.
