Biography

Isaac Arnold was most likely born in Amsterdam. His father was English, his mother was Dutch. His father’s family moved to The Netherlands soon after his father was born, probably for religious reasons, as many religious groups were being poorly treated in England. It is assumed that he emigrated to Massachusetts by 1670, after his parents died. He first is found in Salem, Massachusetts, then Rhode Island by 1675. (needs citation)

Isaac Arnold was an esteemed citizen of Southold, Long Island,. well educated. Often he sprinkled Latin phrases into his writings. He was attorney to prominent men including, Bartholommy Hooper of Plymouth, England, shipwright.

Col. Isaac Arnold married Sarah Cornell as his second wife in October of 1691 in New York City. [3]

Rachel Arnold, born in 1691, married Thomas Hunt of West Farms, Westchester in 1707.[6] Other children included Nathaniel born 1699, Isaac born 1701 and possibly John.

Ellen, I have seen a 1600s record somewhere in my researching that was signed “Isa: Arnold and bros.” This leads me to believe that there was more than 1 Arnold family in the Southold- Shelter Island area, Brookhaven area.

There was also an Isaac Arnold mentioned in the 1610 Will of James Pope. [1]

Ellen, thanks, yes I was confused at first, but I knew he hadn’t been married three times.

The 1691 marriage to Sarah Washbourne is the one for which I found a marriage license. But the profile for Sarah Cornell shows that her first husband was Washburn and her second husband was Isaac Arnold. Thus, at the time of her marriage to Isaac Arnold she (being English, not Dutch) was using the last name of Washburn/Washbourne.

Please see Arnold-129. Based on the details on these two profiles it doesn't look like they should be merged but the wife should be removed from one.

Arnold-2024 and Arnold-129 do not represent the same person because: There is not enough information to conclude that these profiles represent the same person. One is from Southold, LI and the other from Indiana. Not a common migration pattern.
Arnold-2024 and Arnold-129 appear to represent the same person because: match
