Biography

Pusey was born in 1875 in Columbus, Ohio. He was the youngest child of Ephraim Arnett and Martha Jane Harper, a mixed race couple who married in Ohio in 1862. Pusey was an orphan by the time he was six.

At the time of the 1900 U.S. Census the 25 year old Pusey was living with his sister Gazzelle's family in Chicago and he was working as a waiter. During the mid to late 1890's Pusey was a player and manager for Negro League baseball teams; the Chicago Unions and Chicago Clippers.

In 1904 Pusey married Minnie Marion Dyer. Pusey and Minnie raised two sons in Chicago, Illinois where Pusey served in the Illinois National Guard (Capt., Co.F, 8th Infantry Militia), was a clerk and insurance adjuster and Minnie was a nurse. Minnie died in 1927.

In 1931 Pusey married Florence Beatrice (Smith) Price (1888-1953). They were married for a short time.

He passed away in 1957 in Chicago, Illinois.
