Benjamin Arnett Jr is a part of US Black heritage.

Benjamin was born about 1865. He is the son of Benjamin Arnett and Mary Louise Gordon.

In the 1870 census B W (age 5) was in Bridgeport Township, Fayette, Pennsylvania, United States.[1]

In the 1880 census Benjamin (age 16), Attending School, was the single son of B. W. Amett [sic] in Xenia, Greene, Ohio, United States.[2]

Benjamin would graduate from Wilberforce University in 1886 and later attended Columbia University in New York. He taught for several years including Edward Waters College. After his service as a chaplain, Benjamin would serve as a pastor in Ohio, New York and Philadelphia.[3]

In 1898 Benjamin enlisted and served as a chaplain with the Eighth Regiment during the Spanish-American War. This info was recorded on page 2 of his Death Certificate[4] Benjamin (age 32y), son of Benj.W. Arnett & Mary L. Gordon, married Agnes L. Robinson Gray (age 26y), daughter of David Robinson, on 7 March 1898 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan.[5]

In the 1900 census Benjamin (age 35) was the married son of Benjamin W Arnett in Xenia Township (part between Columbus pike & Springfield & Fairfield pike incl. Wilberforce Un, ED 95, Greene, Ohio, United States.[6]

In September, 1906 Benjamin W Arnett (41), a widower, and Retta M Burkett (26) obtained a marriage license in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.[7]

In 1910, Benjamin and Retta were living on 19th Street in Philadelphia. Benjamin was a clergyman. Also in residence was daughter Josephine Arnett (8) and Retta's sister, Katherine Burkett (31).[8]

In 1915 Benjamin, Retta and Josephine were living in New York City.[9]

By 1920 Benjamin was serving as a pastor in Philadelphia and the family, including Josephine, were living on Earlham Terrace in Philadelphia.[10] In 1930 Benjamin and Retta were living on Kinsey in Philadelphia. Benjamin was a Methodist minister.[11] In 1940 they lived on Thompson in Philadelphia.[12]

Rev Benjamin W Arnett of 57th Street in Philadelphia died at the Naval Hospital in that city on April 21, 1948 at the age of 83. He was born in Pennsylvania to Benjamin Arnett and Mary L Gordon. The informant was Retta Arnett of the same address.[4] He was buried April 27. Burial was in the Mount Lawn Cemetery, Sharon Hill, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.[13]
