John Armytage JP was born in Yorkshire, England.

John Armytage was born on 7 October 1792, eldest son of Sir George Armytage (<1761–1836) and his second wife Mary Bowles (1773–1834). He was baptized on 3 November 1792 in Hartshead cum Clifton, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom.[1]

He matriculated into Christ Church College at Oxford in 1810 at age 18.[2]

John and Mary Assheton were married on 2 October 1818 in Downham, Lancashire, England. She was the only daughter of William Assheton of Downham Hall, Lancashire.[3][4] Their children were:

  1. Sir George Armytage (1819–1899)
  2. Capt. William Armytage (1821–1872)[5]
  3. Mary Elizabeth Armytage (1822–1897)
  4. Laura Harriette Armytage (1823–1903)
  5. Capt. Godfrey Armytage (1825–1908)[6]
  6. Emily Armytage (1826–1846) d. unm.[7]
  7. Jane Frances Armytage (1829– 1840) d. unm.[8]
  8. Anna Maria Armytage (1833–1881) d. unm.[9]

He was Justice of the Peace for the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1831 until his death in 1836.[10]

John died at his home in Heath, near Wakefield, Yorkshire on 24 May 1836, just five months before the death of his father. He was buried at Hartshead. His will was proved on 20 October 1836.[11][12][13]
