Biography

Southern Cross of HonorWilliam Louis Armstrong served in the 55th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Company I during the American Civil War.[1]

Son of William C Armstrong and Hannah Denton Lucas. Husband of Mary Frances Osborn.[2]

Company I, 55th Alabama Infantry, Confederate States Army. Enlisted in 1863, Jackson, Mississippi. Served with Johnson and Hood during Georgia campaign. Battles: New Hope Church, Kennesaw Mountain, Franklin and Nashville, Tenn. Captured at Nashville and was a prisoner of war when Lee surrendered. Joined Robert E Lee Camp #158 in February 1906. Awarded Southern Cross of Honor 1908.

Son of William C Armstrong (d 1864 Jackson County, Alabama) and Hannah Denton (Lucas) Armstrong (d 1862 Jackson County, Alabama.) His sister, Julie Armstrong, is buried in this cemetery, as well. William Louis Armstrong passed away in 1924. Final resting place in Oakwood Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.[1]
