Robert Gordon Armstrong was born on 23rd November 1920 in Gordonvale, Queensland, Australia. He was the son of William Armstrong and Jeanie Gordon. [1]

On 11th January 1942 at Cucania, North Queensland, Robert enlisted in the Australan Army's Volunteer Defence Corps (VDC). His next-of-kin was listed as Jean Armstrong. He was allocated to Queensland's 18th Battalion, based at Innisfail. [2]
Robert Armstrong died of illness in North Queensland during the Second World War.
Aged 25 years, he passed away of illness on 9th March 1946 in Queensland and is buried in Babinda Cemetery. Robert Gordon Armstrong's name is located at panel 96 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. [3][4] He was awarded the Australia Service Medal 1939-1945. His unit, indeed the VDC as an entity, had been disbanded in August 1945.
