David I Francis Arkin is the son of Russian immigrants, Arthur and Fannie (Krinsky) Arkin. David was born in NY city on Dec 19 1906. David was hired to work as a set designer but a strike cost him that job.

Some of his inability to find employment in the entertainment field was due to Congressman Joe McCarthy and his "witch hunt" labeling liberal Americans and causing the creation of a black list, Charlie Chaplin was on that list also so he was in good company.

David is the father of actor Alan Arkin.

On May 8th 1928 David has taken return passage on the Majestic from Cherbourg France. When he returned on The Majestic he list his address as 1677 51st St Brooklyn NY

David was a writer a lyricist a teacher and a painter

"Arkin's most memorable song-writing contribution was in creating the lyrics to the song "Black and White", with music by Earl Robinson in 1954.[4] The song was written to celebrate the United States Supreme Court decision of Brown v. In 1945 David moved his family to Los Angeles.
