Biography

William Henry Archer was born in 1825 in London, England, the son of Sarah (Adams) Archer and William Archer.^[1](est. DOB 1825)^[2]

He migrated to Australia in 1852.^[2] Archer arrived at Melbourne in the Diadem on 1 November 1852.^[3]

He was twice married.^[4].

He married Mary Charnley Nind on 10 October 1855 in Victoria.^[5][6][7] Their children were:

• Mary Margaret Nind Archer (1858?–1858)^[8]
• William Alfred Nind Archer (1858–1872)^[9]
• Philip Henry Archer (1859–1860)^[10]
• Grace Mary Archer (1864–1924)^[11]
• Henry Charles Fulbert Archer (1866–1867)^[12]

in 1870 he received the order (KSG) of knighthood of St Gregory The Great (one of 5 knighthoods created by the Holy See; the Catholic Church) from his Holiness Pope Pius IX.

Mary died in August 1899 at Alverno, Grace Park, Hawthorn, Victoria.^[7]

William died in April 1909 at his home, Hornby Street, Windsor, aged 84.^[1][2]

Is interred (with wife, Mary) at Boroondara General Cemetery^[13].
