Biography

Port Arthur Howell Archer was born on 26 June 1902 in Eastland, Texas to Thomas Pinkney Archer and Martha Ann Thompson. He married Lucy E. Martin circa 1921. Port died on 15 June 1985 in Neodesha, Kansas.^[1] He is buried at Belfast Cemetery in Belfast, Missouri alongside his wife.^[2]

United States Census History

1910: Port A H Archer is enumerated in his parents' household in Justice Precinct 7, Eastland, Texas. He is 7 years old and lives with four other siblings as well as a 20-year-old hired hand from Tennessee named Reed General A Archer. Port is a wage earner and works as a farm laborer. He attended school and can read but cannot write.^[3]

1920: Port A Archer is enumerated in his parents' household in Justice Precinct 7, Eastland, Texas. He is 17 years old, and his sister, Eva, also lives in the household. Port attended school and is able to read and write. He is employed as a farmer.^[4]

1930: P H Archer is enumerated as Head of Household at 605 E. 4th Street in Cisco, Texas; he is 26 years old and lives with his wife and two daughters, and the family is renting the home. They do not own a radio set. Port is working as a grocery salesman and can read and write.^[5]

1940: Port H Archer is enumerated as Head of Household at 505 SW Third Street in Bethany, Oklahoma; he is 37 years old and lives with his wife and three daughters. The family owns the home, which is worth $500. In 1939, his income was $302; at the time of the census, he was working as a trader in the cattle business. The highest grade Port completed in school was 6th grade; he can read and write.^[6]

World War II Draft Registration

16 February 1942: Port Arthur Howell Archer is 39 years old and living in Bethany, Oklahoma. He is employed by McKean. Port is 5'7" and weighs 123 lbs. He has a light complexion with black hair and gray eyes. His next of kin is Carol Archer.^[7]
