Sgt. Co. H, 12th Mississippi Infantry
Enlisted with the 12th Mississippi, Co. H, Charley Clark Rifles who fought with Lee's Army of Northern Virginia on 27 April 1861 in Union Church, Mississippi.[1] Later promoted to rank of 4th Sergeant. Wounded in the 7 Days battles around Richmond in 1862. He's captured at the Weldon Railroad in Aug 1864 and sent to Point Lookout, Maryland POW camp. He's exchanged in the Spring of 1865, but still hospitalized when Lee's Army Surrenders.[2] He's given transportation back to Copiah Co., Mississippi on 16 May 1865 - per his Compiled Service Records.

Pioneer Tecumseh Physician Is Dead
TECUMSEH, May 15-(Special)-Dr B.L. Applewhite, pioneer physician of Tecumseh and eastern Oklahoma died here Friday after an illness of several weeks. The physician, who has lived here since the opening more than 40 years ago, was 91 years old. He had retired from active practice ten years ago. Doctor Applewhite practiced in the Indian Territory for a number of years before it was opened to the white settlement. He organized the first medical association in Oklahoma and was active in the society until a few years ago. He is survived by his wife and son, Dr. Gardner Applewhite of Shawnee, and two daughters; Mrs Margaret Chaney, head of the history department of Southeastern State Teachers college, Ada, and Mrs Alice Corn of Tucumcari, N.M. Funeral arrangements had not been made Friday night.
Research Notes
First married to Elizabeth R. Ball about 1867 in Mississippi. They were the parents of Herbert Locke Applewhite. Married secondly to Olive Harriett Rice and they were the parents of Gardner, Margaret R. and Olive Nannie.[3]
