James Joseph Anlezark was born on 2nd March 1919 at Wingello, New South Wales, Australia. He was the eldest son of Edward Anlezark and Rachel Jeffery. He was a great great grandson of Trooper Thomas Anlezark of the New South Wales Corps.
On 18th June 1940, James enlisted in the Second Australian Imperial force during the 2nd World War.[1] He was a member of he 2/13th Australian Infantry Battalion; the 'Devil's Own', 9th Division. As such, James was a Rat of Tobruk. The 2/13th were the first Australian battalion to fight against German troops in the Second World War. They later also fought at Borneo and Brunei.[2] He was discharged on 7th November 1945.
James married Doreen Maude Firth in 1952 at Moss Vale, New South Wales.[3]
He passed away in 1985 in New South Wales.[4]
