Biography

Thomas was born on January 22, 1760 in Hingham, Suffolk, Massachusetts Bay. He was the son of Thomas Andrews and Deborah Burr Andrews. [1]

He married Deborah Cushing, the daughter of Isaiah Cushing and Elizabeth (Cushing) Cushing, on January 4, 1798 in Hingham.[2] They had a daughter, Deborah Andrews, born on March 27, 1800 in Hingham.[3] Thomas' wife Deborah died August 6, 1800 just months after the birth.[4]

On June 7, 1801, Thomas was married to Hannah Cushing by Rev. Henry Ware Pastor at the first church of Hingham. [5] She was the daughter of Peter and Silence (Burr) Cushing. She was Thomas' sister-in-law, her sister Katherine having married his brother Samuel. They had four known children who lived to adulthood.

Thomas' family was enumerated in Hingham in the 1820 U. S. Census. [6] There were eleven people in the household with three being engaged in agriculture.

Thomas died on March 27, 1821 in Hingham at the age of sixty-one. [7] He was buried at Hingham Cemetery in Hingham, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, United States.[8]

Thomas died intestate (without a will) and on April 3, 1821 Wilkes Wood Judge of Probate for Plymouth County granted Hannah Andrews administration of his estate. A $20,000 bond was issued.

  • Catherine Cushing, b. 13 Nov., 1806 ; m. 5 Oct., 1831, Albert Fearing. He was widely known as a philanthropist, and was the founder of the Hingham Public Library, [4]
  • Thomas, b. 16 March, 1809 ; d. in three days. [4]
  • Hannah CUSHING, b. 23 Feb., 1811 ; d. 8 Oct., 1835. [4] age 25 years [9]
