Biography

Peter Corsar Anderson was born on 16 February 1871 at the manse of Menmuir, Forfarshire, Scotland, the son of Jane (Corsar) Anderson and Mark Anderson.[1]

His father was Mark Lowden Anderson 1831 - 1902 a Presbyterian Minister. His mother was Jane Low Corsar 1840 - 1913. They had 12 children.

Peter was a member of St Andrews University Golf Club. In 1893 when only 22, he won the British Amateur Championship at Prestwick, beating JE Laidlay in the final.

He graduated from the old St Andrews University with MA and post-graduate studies in Divinity.

Suffering with poor health he sailed to Albany, Western Australia where his elder brother Mark was living and working as a shipping agent. On his brother's recommendation he quickly moved to Victoria where he became a tutor to a farming family and in 1896 he was appointed an assistant master at Geelong Church of England Grammar School. In 1899 he was put in charge of the Prepartory School. In 1900 he left Geelong Grammar to set up his own school St Salvators in Geelong.

He married Agnes Henrietta Macartney on 5 July 1899 in Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia.[1][2] They had six sons and seven daughters.[1]

In 1904, Peter was appointed headmaster of Scotch College, Perth, a position he held until his retirement in 1945.[1]

Peter died on 26 August 1955 at home in Swanbourne, Western Australia.[1] Online death records have his age as 84 and list his parents as Mark Louden Anderson and Jane Low Corsar.

He was survived by 11 children.
